Many people desire the looks of a marble countertop (Carrara marble is the most sought after type) but hear about its downfalls and wonder if there is a white granite that looks like marble. Good news is there are a few white granites that fit this description, now you can combine the stunning appearance of marble with the practicality of granite countertops.
White Granite That Looks Like Marble – Why Marble Is A Bad Choice
One of the main reasons that people use white granite that looks like marble is that marble is a calcium based stone. This means that it is extremely susceptible to etching from any acidic substances; this is basically when the marble becomes discolored due to the acids reacting to the minerals in the stone. Sometimes the effect can be almost unnoticeable but depending on what has caused the etching it can ruin an otherwise perfect surface. Etching can sometimes alter the smoothness of your countertop, making a once smooth to the touch surface very rough.
The other reason is that marble simply isn’t as resilient as granite as a countertop. Choose a white granite that looks like marble and you will have a surface that is more stain resistant, scratch resistant and impact resistant.
By all means choose a marble countertop if you think you can cope with the high level of maintenance it requires (as well as living in fear that you will damage it in some way) but white granite will be a much more suitable and longer lasting choice.
